SYRIA"S HEALTH MINISTER VISITS THE KULAKOV CENTER

On October 27, 2023, an official delegation from the Syrian Arab Republic made a visit to the Kulakov Center. The delegation included: the Minister of Health of the Syrian Arab Republic Hassan al-Ghabbash, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic Jaafari Bashar, the Counselor of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Russian Federation Ismail Abdelrazzaq. The guests" interest was aroused by the successful implementation in the Kulakov National Center of advanced innovative medical technologies in the field of obstetrics, gynecology and neonatology.

As Gennady Sukhikh, Director of the Kulakov Center, noted in his greeting speech, the Center has always remained the only and the largest head institution in our country within its field of expertise. This work has been carried out for eighty years since the decree on the establishment of the Institute of Maternal and Child Health was issued. 

Today, we are responsible for and supervise the work of specialized institutions throughout the country, and we travel to the regions on a regular basis to share our experience. We are responsible for the transfer of the best technologies, both in clinical practice and in science. Our work focuses on bringing and saving new lives, treating infertility and serious conditions in obstetrics, neonatology and oncology. We perform diagnostics of monogenic diseases in newborns, as well as extended neonatal screening. The Kulakov Center comprises about thirty modern laboratories and nine institutes," said Gennady Kulakov.

Minister of Health of the Syrian Arab Republic Hassan al-Ghabbash thanked the organizers of the meeting for the warm welcome and noted the long-standing friendship between Russia and Syria. The Syrian side showed interest in various types of infertility treatment using assisted reproductive technologies (ART), exome sequencing for neonatal screening, and stem cell research in the field of regenerative medicine.

Gennady Sukhikh noted that he was waiting for Syrian medical specialists for training and exchange of experience. In turn, representatives of the Syrian side promised to welcome Russian specialists from the Kulakov Center.

Our interaction will make it possible to maintain international cooperation, transfer medical care to a new level, and build further constructive dialog," concluded Gennady Sukhikh.
