On November 14, 2024, representatives of the National Department of Health of the Republic of South Africa visited the Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The delegation was led by Dr. Sandile Buthelezi, Director-General of the National Department of Health; Director-General of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC). The meeting was also attended by Ms. Jeanette Hunter (Deputy Director General, Primary Health Care), Mr. Sam Bakane (Director, Medical Technology), Ms. Tsakani Mnisi (Director, International Relations & Cooperation Department), Mr. Thabo Tselane (Group Managing Director, NTP Radioisotopes SOC Ltd.), Dr. Dimakatso Mathibe (Senior Manager, Medical Devices, In Vitro Diagnostics and Radiation Control), Mr. Lesiba Ratlou and Ms. Malebo Motlhamme (Officers of the South African Embassy in the Russian Federation).
During the visit, specialists from South Africa were introduced to the work of the Simulation and Training Center; they also visited departments of the Perinatal Center, in particular the Department of Resuscitation and Intensive Therapy of Newborns.
At the meeting with Gennady Sukhikh, the Director of the Center, the parties discussed the possibility of conducting educational events for specialists from South Africa, including on-site trainings for obstetrician-gynecologists, neonatologists, pediatricians, and gynecologic oncologists. The guests were very interested in the Center's experience in using such effective tools for improving the quality of medical care in the field of maternal and child health as the system of audits and supportive supervision, the VIMIS AKiNEO system (Vertically Integrated Medical Information System “Obstetrics” (AK) and “Neonatology” (NEO), and the telemedicine consultation service, and said they intended to consider introducing similar technologies in South Africa.
