Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of the Ministry of Health of Russia took part in the roundtable discussion “Dialogue between Russia and the Arab World: Advanced Technologies for Human Health,” on December 8, 2025, at the Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology of the Ministry of Health of Russia.
The Kulakov Center was represented by: Gennady Sukhikh (Academician of RAS, Director), Vladimir Klimov (Head Specialist in Obstetrics of the Ministry of Health of Russia, Head of the Service for Organization of Medical Care), Ekaterina Yarotskaya (Head of the Department of International Cooperation), and Anna Chizhova (translator of the Department of International Cooperation).
The meeting with the heads of 19 diplomatic missions from North African and Middle Eastern countries was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Health and representatives of 18 leading Russian national medical research centers and medical universities.
The discussion was focused on various aspects of cooperation between Russia and the countries of the mentioned region in the fields of medicine, scientific research, and medical education.
The round table was opened by Russian Minister of Health, Mikhail Murashko, who highlighted the high level of medical care provided in the Russian Federation, both for Russian citizens and for foreign patients, including those from Arab countries, who seek high-quality and affordable treatment. The Minister also noted Russian advancements in medical technologies for the treatment of various diseases, particularly in obstetrics, gynecology, oncology, and other fields. He particularly emphasized the large-scale international project “Ways to Reduce Maternal and Infant Mortality,” which has been running for over 10 years at the Kulakov Center. As part of this project, over 80 medical specialists from eight countries in the mentioned region have undergone practical training.
Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Evgenia Kotova, emphasized the “growing popularity of checkups of any complexity, available to everyone, including tourists visiting Russia,” and noted that “over the past five years, more than 21 million foreign citizens, a significant portion of whom come from Africa and the Middle East, have sought treatment and diagnosis —particularly in the field of reproductive health— at Russian medical organizations.” Evgenia Kotova also mentioned the unique technologies developed and applied at the Kulakov Center to solve complex reproductive issues and conduct genetic diagnostics, including tools with artificial intelligence. These technologies are aimed at increasing the birth rate, ensuring the birth of healthy babies, and minimizing the complications of hereditary diseases through early detection and treatment.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Alexander Grushko; Deputy Ministers of Health of Russia, Sergey Glagolev and Tatyana Semenova; Director of the Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology of the Ministry of Health of Russia, Ivan Stilidi; and General Director of OOO VTB Medicine, Sergey Nechaev, also discussed various areas of cooperation at the meeting.
After the main part of the meeting, representatives of Russian national medical research centers and medical universities presented the activities of their institutions to foreign guests in the posters exhibition area.
