Kazakhstan Healthcare Leaders Visit the Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of the Ministry of Health of Russia

On February 26, 2026, a delegation from Kazakhstan, led by Yerzhan Suleimenov, Head of the Health Department of the Almaty region, visited the Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of the Ministry of Health of Russia. The delegation was welcomed by Gennady Sukhikh, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Director of the Center; Mikhail Ketskalo, Deputy Director of the Center/Director of the National Medical Research Center for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation for Pregnant Women; Dmitry Voronov, Director of the Institute of Professional Education; Vladimir Klimov, Head of the Medical Care Organization and Information Services; Elizaveta Khamatkhanova, Head of the Department of Educational Simulation Technologies in Medicine; and Anna Chizhova, International Cooperation Department.

Gennady Sukhikh, presented the guests with an overview of the Center’s structure, functions, and multidisciplinary activities. The meeting focused on cooperation in maternal and child health, including supportive supervision from the Center experts to the regional perinatal centers in Kazakhstan, sharing successful experiences in telemedicine consultations, and developing analogues of the Vertically Integrated Medical Information System (VIMIS).

Head of the Department of Educational Simulation Technologies in Medicine, Elizaveta Khamatkhanova, led a tour of the Simulation and Training Center (STC), showcasing innovative training equipment for obstetricians-gynecologists, neonatologists, and ultrasound specialists. The guests were impressed by the scale of the STC’s activities, the variety of training programs, and the high level of professional preparation of Russian specialists. Both sides agreed to exchange specialists and provide training, including organizing off-site training for obstetricians-gynecologists, neonatologists, pediatricians, and nursing staff, as well as the possibility of opening a joint Russian-Kazakh simulation and training center.

The visit concluded with the signing of a cooperation agreement. Both parties confirmed their commitment to an active partnership, including joint initiatives to improve healthcare standards, the quality of medical education, and research. Mr. Suleimenov expressed hope that Russia and Kazakhstan would become reliable partners in the field of maternal and child health.
