Japan-Russia International Session for Pediatric Surgery, March 12, 2021

On March 12, 2021, a joint online session "Japan-Russia International Session for Pediatric Surgery" was held online within the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery (JSES2020) in Yokohama.

The major part of the program was devoted to the outcomes of cooperation between Oita University and the FSBI “National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after Academician V.I. Kulakov” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

After  the greetings of the President of Oita University Prof. Seigo Kitano, Director of the Center Prof. Gennady Sukhikh and representatives of the Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare of Japan, Dr. Ekaterina Yarotskaya (Head of the Department of International Cooperation) presented an overview of Japan-Russia Medical Cooperation Project in pediatric surgery. Prof. Satoshi Ieiri (Department of Pediatric Surgery, Kagoshima University) and Dr. Katsuhiro Ogawa (Department of Gastroenterological and Pediatric Surgery, Oita University) provided detailed information about the results of the 1st Japan Russia training course “Endoscopic surgery and tracheal endoscopic treatment workshop for pediatric surgeons” which was held at the Center on February 5-7, 2020. The analysis of the past Russian-Japanese teleconferences was presented by Prof. Toshihiko Watanabe (Department of Pediatric Surgery, Tokai University). During the session, presentations were also made by Dr. Yuko Bitoh (Pediatric Surgery, Kobe University), who spoke about the pitfalls in clinical case of pediatric tracheal disease, Dr. Yulia Podurovskaya (Head of the Department of Neonatal Surgery) and Dr. Elena Dorofeeva (Clinical Head) presented the experience of the Center in laparoscopic pyeloplasty and in the treatment of congenital lung malformations. At the end of the session, Prof. Hiroo Uchida (Department of Pediatric Surgery, Nagoya University) spoke about current “off the job training” of pediatric endosurgery in Japan.

Japanese and Russian participants outlined the benefits of the collaboration and expressed their wish for further cooperation in the field of pediatric endoscopic surgery, both in the format of online meetings and in face-to-face educational events and visits.
