Within the framework of the cooperation program between the Russian Federation and Ethiopia, the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko visited Addis Ababa. During the meeting the Ministers of Health of the two countries discussed plans for cooperation, including joint medical educational programs; cooperation between medical universities; pharmaceutical products and medical equipment supply.
Mikhail Murashko and a working group of national medical centers of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation also visited the Russian Red Cross Hospital in Ethiopia.
Over five days, doctors from leading Russian medical institutions provided more than 700 free consultations to patients regarding the following areas: cardiovascular and infectious diseases, therapy, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, traumatology, and dermatology.
Among the members of the delegation was Prof. Inna Apolikhina, Head of the Department of Aesthetic Gynecology and Rehabilitation of the FSBI “National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after Academician V.I. Kulakov” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, obstetrician-gynecologist, urogynecologist, physiatrist, doctor of the highest category.
Prof. Inna Apolikhina saw 135 patients and identified the most common problems in gynecological care, including lack of preventive care; early menopause in women due to inadequate treatment of menopausal syndrome; lack of tactics for the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease, prevention and early diagnosis of cervical cancer; lack of awareness among the female population on reproductive health issues.
Prof. Inna Apolikhina also handed over humanitarian aid from the Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology to her Ethiopian colleagues. This included antiseptics, anti-inflammatory medications, and consumables for preventive and diagnostic examinations.
