Meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions of Latin America and Caribbean countries

On May 21, 2025, an extended meeting of the Ministry of Health, representatives of leading Russian medical research centers and medical universities with the heads of diplomatic missions from 18 Latin America and Caribbean countries was held at the P. Hertsen Moscow Oncology Research Institute (MORI) (the branch of the FSBI “National Medical Research Radiological Centre” (NMRRC) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation).

The Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation was presented by: Gennady Sukhikh (Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director), Ekaterina Yarotskaya (Head of the Department of International Cooperation), and Olesya Dmitrieva (Specialist of the Department of Educational Simulation Technologies in Medicine).

The meeting focused on various aspects of cooperation between Latin American countries and the Russian Federation in the fields of medicine, research, and medical education, including the field of obstetrics and gynecology.

Mikhail Murashko, the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, opened the meeting by noting the growing interest in Russian medicine and the increasing number of foreign patients receiving medical care in Russia every year. The minister also recognized the contribution of Russian institutions to the training of medical specialists from Latin America and the Caribbean countries, and highly rated the large-scale International Project “Ways to Reduce Maternal and Infant Mortality”, which has been running for over 10 years at the Kulakov Center. Over 400 doctors from the countries mentioned above have been trained within the framework of this project.

Evgenya Kotova, the Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, spoke about the increasing number of patients from abroad, including those seeking treatment for obstetric and gynecological issues. She noted that advanced technologies have played a significant role in this, increasing the effectiveness of IVF programs and making it easier to detect a wide range of congenital and hereditary diseases.

The following speakers were present at the meeting dedicated to various areas of cooperation: Alexander Shchetinin (Director of the Latin American Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation), Sergey Glagolev (Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation), Artem Narkevich (Director of the Department of Medical Education and Personnel Policy in Healthcare, Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation), and Andrey Kaprin (Director General of the National Medical Research Radiological Centre of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation). The guests of the event were greeted by Gustavo Adolfo López Calderón, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Guatemala, representing the Embassies of Latin America and the Caribbean countries.

Finally, the foreign guests were invited to learn about the work of Russian medical research centers and medical universities at the exhibition stands. The stand demonstrating the work of the National Medical Research Center of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology, presented by the Center's Director Gennady Sukhikh, aroused great interest.
