Working visit of doctors from Pyongyang General Hospital in the Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation

From June 2 to June 6, 2025, the representatives of the Pyongyang General Hospital (DPRK): Drs. Jo Zong Rae, Kim Hyon, Kim Hyek Chol (Head of the Department of the Pyongyang Hospital), as well as Choe Kwi Nam (representative of the DPRK Ministry of Health) visited the Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

North Korean specialists learned about the work of the Institutes and Laboratories of the Center. They found the following profiles particularly interesting: the Laboratory of Clinical Immunology (headed by Prof. Lyubov Krechetova); the Institute of Reproductive Genetics (headed by Prof. Dmitry Trofimov); the Institute of Microbiology, Antimicrobial Therapy and Epidemiology (headed by Prof. Tatyana Priputnevich); and the Laboratory of Metabolomics and Bioinformatics (headed by Vitaly Chagovets).

The delegation showed great interest in the advanced medical equipment of the Center's laboratories, including a flow cytometer, an automatic bacteriological analyzer, an automatic biochemical analyzer, a DNA sequencer, a nucleic acid amplifier, and a mass spectrometer. They were also interested in the Laboratory for the Collection and Storage of Biomaterials (biobank).

In addition, North Korean doctors had a tour of the Consultative and Diagnostic Center and visited the Department of Neonatal Surgery (headed by Dr. Yulia Podurovskaya). There, they learnt about patient care, including logistics, collection of biological materials and submitting results into the analytical system, as well as the specifics of the departments management.

At the end of their week-long visit, the guests from the DPRK met with Gennady Sukhikh, the director of the Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology. He expressed his readiness to provide comprehensive support in strengthening cooperation between the institutions.
