Two years ago, the FSBI “National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after Academician V.I. Kulakov” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and Oita University signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of minimally invasive diagnostics and endoscopic surgery in newborns. A year ago, the 1st Japan Russia training course “Endoscopic surgery and tracheal endoscopic treatment workshop for pediatric surgeons” was held in the Center. The course included: lectures and video lectures on neonatal surgery, master classes on endoscopy using training models and simulators, pre-testing of students and post-testing of students with an assessment of their results.

During the past year, due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, all events were held online.  Over the past few months, this was the 3^rd meeting of Japanese and Russian specialists (since September 2020 the Center and Oita University held 3 televidoconferences (TVC)). During these TVCs specialists presented their presentations on specific clinical cases, demonstrated particular surgical techniques and discussed the diagnosis, preoperative examination, and postoperative management. Leading Japanese experts as well as specialists from Moscow university clinics were listeners of the conferences.  

The first two conferences, which were held in September and November, were devoted to congenital biliary tract diseases in newborns.

The third teleconference, which was held on February 4, was dedicated to a rare disease: choledochal cyst. This is a congenital pathology that requires surgical intervention. The specialists from both sides exchanged their knowledge and experience in this disease  management and highly appreciated the expertise of each other.
