November 14-18, 2022 in Tajikistan and November 21-25, 2022 in Kyrgyzstan, the regular National Steering Group Meetings and semi-annual Quality Improvement Workshops on the joint project "Improving Quality of Hospital Care to Reduce Maternal, Newborn and Child Mortality in Four Countries (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Vietnam)" were held.
The events were attended by representatives of the Russian Embassy in the participating countries, Project leads from the WHO Headquarters, the European Office, WHO Country Offices and Ministries of Health, heads of maternity and pediatric departments, obstetricians-gynecologists, neonatologists and midwives from the pilot hospitals. WHO Collaborating Centres in Russia were represented by experts from National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after academician V.I. Kulakov (Ekaterina Yarotskaya – Head of Department of International Cooperation, Elizaveta Khamatkhanova – Head of Department of Educational and Simulation Technologies in Medicine).
The following issues were discussed at the meetings in both countries:
- supportive supervision within the Project as an ongoing process of learning and sharing experiences to improve the quality of care;
- the role of nurses and midwives in providing better quality care;
- availability, rational use, and technical support of medical equipment in hospitals.
At the end of the meeting, plans and prospects for 2023 and beyond were discussed.
Also on November 28-30 at the pilot hospitals in Kyrgyzstan, the specialists from the National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after academician V.I. Kulakov, acting as certified WHO experts, carried out training activities based on special modules of effective perinatal care: use of the WHO Partogram 2020, vacuum extraction, neonatal resuscitation.
